About the Journal
Middle Atlantic Archaeology is the peer-reviewed, digital journal of the Middle Atlantic Archaeological Conference (MAAC), reporting on the archaeology of the Middle Atlantic region, broadly construed. It welcomes work on precontact, historical, and contemporary archaeology, as well as material culture, landscapes and places, heritage and preservation, archaeological science, and public and collaborative archaeology where these contribute to archaeological understanding. The journal welcomes submissions from researchers working across academic, CRM, government, museum, community, and avocational settings.
Format and Access
Middle Atlantic Archaeology is published online, with print copies available on demand. Each new volume is available exclusively to MAAC members for three months after publication and then becomes freely available to all readers. MAAC members can log in to read the current volume. There are no article processing charges, and authors retain copyright to their work.
History
Middle Atlantic Archaeology was founded in 2026 by the Middle Atlantic Archaeological Conference, continuing the 41-volume legacy of the Journal of Middle Atlantic Archaeology, which Roger Moeller founded and edited from 1985 to 2025. The first volume of Middle Atlantic Archaeology will appear in 2027 and will be dedicated to Roger Moeller's four decades of service to MAAC and Middle Atlantic archaeology.
