About the Journal

JOURNAL SUMMARY

The International Journal of Alevi-Bektashi Studies is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal dedicated to the study of Alevi, Bektashi, and related communities, traditions, histories, and cultures across the Ottoman Empire, Turkey, the Middle East, the Balkans, and the global diaspora. The journal welcomes original scholarship from a wide range of disciplines, including history, anthropology, religious studies, sociology, cultural studies, literature, political science, and digital humanities. It aims to address a significant scholarly gap in a rapidly expanding field and to provide a rigorous interdisciplinary forum for advancing research and debate in both historical and contemporary contexts.

The journal’s working language is English. In exceptional circumstances, submissions in Turkish may be considered, particularly when extensive use of primary sources warrants publication in the original language.

The journal follows a continuous publication model, whereby accepted articles are published online immediately upon completion of peer review, copyediting, and production. Articles are subsequently compiled into annual volumes for archival, citation, and indexing purposes.
